The Hero's Journey Programme

Helping every child to be the Hero of their journey
from the classroom, to the stage, and beyond...

The Hero's Journey is an arts-based learning programme that uses the arts of storytelling, performance and beyond, to help improve the wellbeing and empowerment of children and young people who are considered vulnerable in education and community settings.
Our Heroes learn new personal and interpersonal skills in a safe, playful environment - where imagination is everything! Our expert mentors help them to validate their voice and experiences by designing and producing their own original creative project - in whatever medium the Hero feels called to explore. The programme culminates in an exciting sharing session on their local stage ... even if that's in the West End!

So, how does the programme work?

We meet for 1 hour 'Heroes' sessions during the school day, once a week for 9 weeks...

We provide the materials each Hero needs for their project - be it paints, clay, felt, cardboard, a pop-star microphone or costumes for a play. These materials are theirs to keep after their Journey is completed; many of our Heroes continue to make art and explore their voices, which is so exciting to hear!

The sessions are run holistically; we take pride in providing a safe space where the Heroes can express every emotion that arises on a new creative journey - and explore their own best practices.
We learn techniques to maintain focus and keep calm when things get tricky - like breathing exercises, listening to chill music, and meditation.

Our workshop leaders guide the Heroes on their journey of self-discovery - teaching them new artistic skills, challenging them to take risks, and always ensuring the process is fun, mindful and empowering.
We start with fun exercises to uncover the things about their story, personality or interests that they'd love to make art about, plus plenty of imaginative drama games to build trust, hone teamwork, and get the creative juices flowing.

Our team support each child at every step - and encourage them to share feedback and encouragement with their peers.
Caedmon sessions are proof that every child has the talent and imagination to create something amazing - they just need the space, time and support to discover and nurture it.

A highlight is always the visit from a 'Magical Mentor'! A guest professional artist shares advice, wisdom and encouragement with the group as their projects take shape.
Heroes have enjoyed being inspired by West End stars, singer-songwriters, comedians, poets and painters, to name a few!
The 10th week is the 2 hour 'Theatre Day'...
Each child presents their hard work to their fellow Heroes - on a real stage!
